Kappa Ularthiyathu Kappa means Tapioca. This recipe is basically a spicy stir fried tapioca which is a Keralite favourite! It is an easy and quick dish that is usually served with a fish curry or any other spicy curry. By Sanjeev Kapoor 14 Aug 2024 in Recipes Main Course Vegetarian New Update Kappa Ularthiyathu Main ingredients Tapioca (kappa), Turmeric powder, Garlic, Dried red chillies, Curry leaves, Madras onions, Coconut oil, Red chilli powder, Garam masala powder Cuisine Kerala Course Main course vegetarian Prep time 10-15 minutes Cook time 10-15 minutes Serve 4 Taste Savoury Level of cooking Easy Others Vegetarian Ingredients 400 grams tapioca (kappa), peeled and cut into 1 inch pieces ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder Salt to taste 6-8 garlic cloves 3-4 dried red chillies 20-25 curry leaves 10-15 madras onions, sliced 1-2 tablespoons coconut oil ½ teaspoon red chilli powder ½ teaspoon garam masala powder Method Put tapioca pieces into a pressure cooker, add 2½ cups water, turmeric powder and salt and mix well. Switch the heat on and cook under pressure for 1 whistle. Open the cooker once the pressure has reduced completely. Strain the mixture. Meanwhile, to make the spice mix, put garlic cloves in a mixer jar. Add dried red chillies, 10-15 curry leaves and madras onions and grind to a coarse paste. Heat coconut oil in an earthen pan. Add the ground paste and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add remaining curry leaves and mix well. Add boiled tapioca pieces and mix till well combined. Add red chilli powder and garam masala powder and adjust salt. Mix while lightly mashing with the back of a wooden spoon. Transfer into a serving bowl.
