Ingredients list for Black Pepper Rice

  • 2 cups Rice cooked
  • 10-12 Black peppercorns
  • 2 teaspoons Cumin seeds
  • 1 Dried red chilli broken
  • 2 tablespoons Ghee
  • 1 teaspoon Split Bengal gram (chana dal)
  • 1 teaspoon Split skinless black gram (dhuli urad dal)
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 1 medium Onion
  • 10-12 Curry leaves
  • 1 medium Tomato
  • to taste Salt

Method

  1. Dry roast cumin seeds and black peppercorns in a non-stick pan till fragrant. Add dried chilli and mix well. Switch off heat, cool down to room temperature and grind to a coarse powder.
  2. Heat ghee in another non-stick pan, add Bengal gram, black gram and mustard seeds and saute till lightly browned.
  3. Roughly chop onion.
  4. Add curry leaves and onion to the pan and saute till translucent.
  5. Roughly chop tomato and add to the pan and saute till tomato becomes soft. Add salt and mix well. Add rice and mix well.
  6. Add ground powder and mix well. Cook till the rice gets heated through.
  7. Transfer into a serving plate and serve hot.
