Chana Dal and Soya Wadi ki Sabzi

Ingredients 

  • 1 cup split Bengal gram, (chana dal) soaked
  • 1½ cups soya bean chunks, soaked and squeezed
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 teaspoon cumin seeds
  • 3 medium onions, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon chopped ginger 
  • 1 teaspoon chopped garlic 
  • 2 medium tomatoes, chopped
  • ¼ teaspoon asafoetida
  • 3 teaspoons coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon red chilli powder
  • ¼ teaspoon turmeric powder
  • Salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon garam masala powder
  •  Chopped fresh coriander leaves for garnishing

Method

  1. Heat oil in a non-stick pan. Add cumin seeds and sauté till their colour begins to change.
  2. Add onions and sauté till they are golden.
  3. Add ginger and garlic, mix well and sauté for 1 minute.
  4. Add tomatoes, mix well and cook till they are pulpy.
  5. Add asafoetida, coriander powder, red chilli powder, turmeric powder and mix well.
  6. Add salt and chana dal, mix well and cook till the dal is soft.
  7. Add 3 tablespoons water, mix and cook further.
  8. Add soya chunks, garam masala powder. Toss and add 2-3 tablespoons water. Mix well and cook for 2-3 minutes.
  9. Serve hot garnished with coriander leaves.
