Ingredients list for Coorg Style Dry Chicken

  • 750 grams Chicken cut into 8 pieces on the bone
  • to taste Salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon Turmeric powder
  • 3 Green cardamoms
  • 3 one-inch sticks Cinnamon
  • 6-7 Cloves
  • 1 tablespoon Black peppercorns
  • 1 teaspoon Mustard seeds
  • 5-6 Dried red chillies
  • 3 tablespoons Oil
  • 1 cup Onions chopped
  • 1/2 cup Tomatoes chopped
  • 6 teaspoons Kodumpulli water

Method

  1. Put chicken pieces in a bowl, add salt and turmeric powder and mix.
  2. Dry roast green cardamoms, cinnamon, cloves, black peppercorns, mustard seeds and dried red chillies in a small non-stick pan till fragrant. Let them cool down.
  3. Heat oil in another non-stick pan, add onions and sauté till golden.
  4. Transfer the roasted spices into a mixer jar grind them to a powder.
  5. Add chicken to the onions, mix and saute for 2-3 minutes on high heat.
  6. Add tomatoes, mix and sauté for 2-3 minutes. Add ½ cup water and ground spices and mix well.
  7. Adjust salt and ¼ cup water, mix, cover, reduce heat and cook till chicken is almost done.
  8. Add kodumpulli water and mix. Cover and cook on low heat till chicken is fully cooked.
  9. Transfer into a serving bowl and serve hot.
