Why is it that when you are stuck at “what should we cook today” the answer is always “make some aloo!” Potatoes are like this…extremely popular and have multipurpose usage.

And did you always think that eating a potato will make you fat?
Well, don’t – it is a surprising source of vitamin C and provides useful amounts of starch, thiamine and niacin and around a hundred grams will provide about eighty calories.

Ingredients for Masala For Masala Dosa Recipe

  • Potatoes 4

  • Onions 2

  • Green chillies 4

  • Tomato 1

  • Ginger 1 piece

  • Gingelly oil 8 tablespoons

  • Mustard seeds 1/2 teaspoon

  • Split Bengal gram (chana dal) 2 teaspoons

  • Curry leaves 10-12

  • Cashewnuts 12

  • Coconut scraped 1/4 cup

  • Asafoetida 1/4 teaspoon

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Salt to taste

  • Green peas 1/4 cup

  • Whole dry red chillies 4

  • Coriander seeds 1 tablespoon

  • Poppy seed (khuskhus) paste 1 teaspoon

  • Fennel seeds (saunf) 1/2 teaspoon


Step 1

Boil the potatoes till completely cooked, cool, peel and cut or mash into small cubes. Peel onions and slice it. Wash and slit the green chillies, wash and chop the tomatoes and ginger. Heat 2 tablespoons of oil, fry the ingredients for masala powder, cool and grind to a coarse powder.

Step 2

Heat the remaining oil, temper with mustard seeds, chana dal and curry leaves. Add the green chillies, ginger, cashew nuts and onions. Sauté for about 5 minutes. Add the coconut and continue. Now sprinkle the asafoetida, salt and the turmeric powder. - See more at: http://www.s

Step 3

Stir well. Add the tomatoes and fry over high heat, add the green peas and the powdered masala. Add the potato, sprinkle some water and cook till everything combines well and the potato starts breaking up. Remove from heat and keep aside.
