How many times have we thought rice is a blessing? We use it for holy purposes but we also can pressure up a quick pulao or khichdi when hunger pangs are drumming away! This is one grain that is about 98% percent digestible. In India we are familiar with Basmati, Patna or brown rice but it is also available as Italian Rice and Glutinous Rice which is popular in Chinese and Japanese cuisines.

Ingredients for Tomato Bhaat Recipe

  • Cooked Rice 3 cups

  • Tomatoes finely chopped 4 medium

  • Oil 1 tablespoon

  • Cumin seeds 1 teaspoon

  • Mustard seeds 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Garlic chopped 1 tablespoon

  • Curry leaves 7-8

  • Onions finely chopped 2 medium

  • Turmeric powder 1/4 teaspoon

  • Red chilli powder 1 teaspoon

  • Garam masala powder 1 1/2 teaspoons

  • Salt to taste

  • Papads 4

  • Fresh coriander leaves chopped for garnishing

Method

Step 1

Heat oil in a non-stick pan, add cumin seeds and mustard seeds and saute for a minute.

Step 2

Add garlic and curry leaves and saute for two minutes. Add onions, mix and saute till the onions turn translucent.

Step 3

Add tomatoes, mix and cook till the tomatoes turn soft and pulpy.

Step 4

Add turmeric powder, red chilli powder, garam masala powder and salt and mix well.

Step 5

Add rice and toss well. Cook till the rice gets heated through.

Step 6

Roast the papads on direct heat and immediately shape them into katoris.

Step 7

Fill the papad katoris with tomato bhaat, garnish with coriander leaves and serve hot.
